Modernisation of Waagner Biro's heating plant
| Waagner Biro's heating plant contains 2 steam boilers, fired with Unitherm burners. The city of Graz Works Department commissioned a modernisation of this installation. The firm of Hauzendorfer and Kober carried out this project. The burners were converted to an electronic compound system. In addition, a revolution speed controller for the combustion air and a recirculation speed controller were fitted. Now the burners are each controlled via one FMS 5. This system is a good example of how modern electronics can be used to convert an existing combustion facility to leading-edge technology. |

The FMS takes over all the functions needed by the burner. It controls both of the rev-speed regulated blowers plus the gas damper, air damper and recirculation damper. |
| An FMS with an F 250 flame monitor is built-in. As a result, all the other combustion system's control functions are also unified in the FMS. It takes over the start-up program, the leakage monitoring and the flame monitoring, all integrated in one instrument. This saves a great deal in terms of wiring overheads. Furthermore, the unit offers a high degree of transparency, since all messages and warnings are displayed in plain text. |

The installation's efficiency is already greatly enhanced through the use of revolution-speed control and an electronic compound system. However, an additional type LR 1 O2 control system is also connected. This means that the installation always reaches its optimum operating point, regardless of any external effects. |
